Largest Cohort of Students  benefited from SINDA’s Back To School Festival Increased beneficiaries a result of collaboration with agencies to benefit more in the community

This event (photos)  took place at Broadrick Secondary School on the 16th November 2019.Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance
and Education and President, SINDA was the Guest of Honour for this event.

SINDA (Singapore Indian Development Association) provided school kits to 3,500 students from low-income families at its 12th edition of the Back To School Festival (BTSF) — the largest number of student recipients since the inception of the
festival. This was  the first time that the annual festival is held over four days at various locations across the country.  A total of $630,000 was disbursed to students, and each received$180 worth of shoe and stationery vouchers to purchase resources in preparation for the new school year. All student beneficiaries who received these vouchers have a family Per Capita Income (PCI) of $1,000 and below.

The Back To School Festival is a key aspect of SINDA’s continuous efforts to ensure that all students have access to maximal educational opportunities, regardless of family circumstances.

Ms Rajah in her speech said, “Education is the key to better social mobility and eventually, a better life. The government is focused on how we can support our students’ to better help them in their life journey, to bridge inequality and help them access the opportunities available. One such initiative is the Uplifting Pupils in Life and Inspiring Families Taskforce, or UPLIFT in short. This is an MOE Taskforce which I chair. UPLIFT was launched last year to better support our students from disadvantaged families, especially those that are under-performing”.
