Deepavali lunch for our Guest Foreign Workers – January 14th, 2015

by Mr K.Kesavapany, Ambassador to Jordan

Mr LIM Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office with others during the event

In a never-before-held event, more then 1000 foreign workers from India were hosted to Dinner by the Migrant Workers Centre, with the Hindu Endowment Board as a principal partner,on Sunday 25th October, 2014 at the Sri Sreenivasa Temple in Serangoon Road, Singapore.

With NTUC Chairman and Mr LIM Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office as the Guest-of Honour ,the event was graced by members of the Hindu Endowment Board and Hindu Advisory Board.

Welcoming the guest workers, and speaking in Tamil, Chairman of HEB Mr Jayachandran expressed gratitude to the workers for leaving their families behind and coming to work in Singapore.

In the same vein, the MWC Chairman Mr Yeo Guat Heng thanked the guest workers who had come to help build the new Singapore.

The highlight of the evening was the launch of a video on the rights of foreign workers working in Singapore.

This video will be shown to future workers even before they leave their homelands.

Coming in the aftermath of the Little India riot last year, these are welcome developments which would help enhance the working and living conditions of our foreign guest workers.
