Palaniappa Chettiar Auditorium – April 1st, 2008
Inauguration of the L.CT.L.Palaniappa Chettiar Auditorium
On the 5th of April, 2008, Karaikudi, a town in the Deep South Tamil Nadu, was preparing itself for a Mega Grand Function and people there were eagerly waiting to greet Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, All India Congress President. She was to inaugurate the L.CT.L Palaniappa Chettiar Auditorium.
We understand from the authoritative sources that, Alagappa University has been accredited with grade “A” by NAAC in the year 2005 and has its own colleges and 35 colleges are also affiliated to the University. UGC also granted its recognition in the year 1987. Such a world class university was lacking of an Auditorium and this has hampered the university in conducting lectures, conferences, seminars, convocations, cultural programmes etc. Thus an idea emerged in Honourable Finance Minister of India Mr. P.Chidambaram’s mind to donate an auditorium to the University which would be very useful for such a reputed university falling in his constituency.
The authoritative sources also say that it was decided to be named as L.CT.L. Palaniappa Memorial auditorium as Mrs Lakshmi Aacchi’s, mother of our Honourable Finance Minister who felt that there is nothing in the memory of her late husband Mr Palaniappa Chettiar and since her son is donating the auditorium to the university which is in Karaikudi, it would be ideal to name it in her late husband’s name and thus the auditorium is named as L.CT.L. Palaniappa Memorial Auditorium.
The auditorium is built with all modern facilities keeping in mind the kind of programmes that would come up in the university. Moreover the auditorium is going to have a world class library at the basement shortly which would be very useful for the students.
The Kind of programmes expected to take place in the auditorium are convocations, lectures, cultural programmes, science exhibitions, symposiums etc.
