SINDA – LISHA Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

Background

Little India Shopkeepers & Heritage Association (LISHA) was established in 2000 to promote the area’s heritage, culture and commercial activities. It plays an important role in Little India by leading celebrations for numerous festivities, including Pongal, Tamil New Year and Deepavali. Over the years, SINDA and LISHA have collaborated annually for Project Give, SINDA’s flagship fundraising event to raise funds for the educational and financial needs of the Indian community.

About the MOU

On 19 July 2019, the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) and the Little India Shopkeepers & Heritage Association (LISHA)  signed a MOU to heighten collaboration with one another and strengthen both organisations’ continued partnership in benefiting the Singaporean Indian community.

Objectives of the MOU

Both parties to forge a stronger partnership and share resources with one another

Merchants of Little India and SINDA to collaborate in uplifting the Indian community and at
the same time, enhancing the vibrancy and heritage of Little India

Both organisations are pivotal entities in the Indian community and will work hand in hand to disseminate key messages to the people

Future Plans

SINDA’s participation in LISHA’s events will offer increased opportunities for SINDA to
engage the wider community and create more awareness about community programmes
and services

Joint events serve as a platform for more extensive outreach to various audience segments –
youth, new parents, families and other community organisations, and also provide
networking opportunities for members in the community to pool their ideas, build on one
another’s strengths and serve community needs

Heightened collaboration with LISHA encourages CSR activities and through that, more in
the community will benefit

LISHA to continue to support SINDA in Project Give and its related activities

SINDA to support LISHA through funding for key cultural and heritage events

Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, CEO, SINDA said that SINDA and LISHA, two bigger Indian organisations, have been working together in some areas.  Through this MOU, both organisations can come together and can work more concrete which will benefit more Indians.  He also said that, both organisations can work together in the areas of language, community development and arts.

Mr Rajkumar, Chairman, LISHA said, ‘This is a community partnership for the benefit of Indians as Little India is a part of every Indian. The stakeholders of Little India have the responsibility to contribute back to the community. Through this partnership and MOU signing, LISHA’s contribution to the community is vital’.
